Water Leak Detection- For Toilets

The most irritating plumbing problems are the toilet leaks. This leak is not only annoying, but will also waste water and increases your water bill.

The important signs of a toilet leak includes: the sound coming from the toilet when no one is using it or it is not running, a homeowner needs to keep the knob pressed otherwise that the tank will empty, the water keeps running over the top of the runoff, water keeps running down from side of toilet when the flush is done, the toilet continue to run even if the handle has not been pressed. This kind of leak is known as a silent leak.

For proper water leak detection a couple of tests have been listed below that you can perform:

1. For most homeowners, having a dye test for a silent leak is the best choice. You need to buy a dye from a water company or plumbing supplier. It is usually a red dye. Once you have acquired the dye, you can straight away perform the leak test. Remove any substance such as a drain cleaner that may be coloring the water. Put enough dye in the tank water so that there is a deep color. Wait for about a half hour and then check to see if the water in the bowl has turned the color of the dye. If the water has color, then you definitely have a toilet leak.

2. The second silent leak detecting test you can do is to turn off the water at the water pipe which runs to the toilet prior to going in bed. Then check the level of water in the morning. If you find that there is water loss in the tank, then you definitely have a toilet leak.
